This is a personal story rooted in memory and how memory reshapes reality. It explores grief and longing, states I have always been drawn to emotionally and artistically. I set the story in a body of water because it functions as a metaphorical limbo, a space between the external world and the inner mind where time softens and reality becomes unstable. I was compelled to tell this story because I rarely see Black bodies represented in water, particularly in narratives that centre interior experience. Portraying a character accepting loss as reality felt intimate and necessary.
