I chose to tell this story because I recognized the tension Warmis Sobre Ruedas navigates as a film. Growing up as a girl in a male-dominated society in Macedonia, I learnt early how personal expression can become a public act of resistance, even when that isn’t the intention. The women in Warmis Sobre Ruedas aren’t trying to provoke anyone, they are simply existing on their own terms, and this is exactly what makes their presence powerful. Their struggle between tradition and modernity mirrors what I’ve seen in my own community, where change is often seen as a threat.
