Tulips

I wanted to present a coming-of-age story from the perspective of a Black girl as the protagonist. Too often, the coming-of-age genre has centered white characters, leaving black girls out of narratives that reflect experiences they also deeply share. I wanted to create space for that perspective--for the girls who may not feel able to talk to their mothers about what they've gone through, and who are navigating these complexes on their own.
