Palestinians living in New York City each talk about one object that connects them to their homeland. Through simple stories and an experimental form, the film explores memory, displacement, and the unattainable image of home. It examines how a single object can hold deep personal significance, shaping both memories and identity.


Creator
Diana Smykova is a young visual artist and filmmaker working at the intersection of documentary and fine art photography, often blending video, text, and experimental storytelling. Born in the Far Russian North, she has explored identity, folklore, and sacred landscapes through intimate narratives. She directed her first experimental short film while on a scholarship at the New York Film Academy, expanding her practice into filmmaking. Now living nomadically with a base in Egypt, she keeps exploring her practice in different disciplines. Her latest project explores home, migration, and identity through personal stories. A member of Women Photograph and the Russian Photography Society, she studied photography at Fotografika (2021) and filmmaking at NYFA (2024). more...
