I was drawn to this story after a conversation with my best friend. She spoke to me about suffering with her eating disorder and the loneliness that came with it, how, instead of support, the people around her often encouraged the behaviour without realising. Conversations around eating disorders are still something we avoid, let alone conversations that involve real care or help. This story feels especially urgent now, in the age of social media, where comparison and competition between women, particularly young women, are constant. We forget that our bodies are vessels, and that they deserve care, patience, and kindness.
