Red Hands depicts a once loving relationship that deteriorates into violence and depravity within minutes. This rapid unraveling is not just interpersonal, it reflects the corrosive effects of individualism and competition on our ability to connect. The film denaturalizes the idea of “friendly” competition, revealing how it can become weaponized, especially in societies that reward individualism over care. I chose to tell this story because of my experience in art school. There was always an unspoken competition that would eat away at us, ending in broken friendships and a lack of trust in one another.
