My hometown is in Ocean County, which has the second-highest overdose death rate in New Jersey. I have watched people lose friends, and I have lost friends myself. Despite constant warnings, the overdoses continue. This crisis has shaped my entire high school experience. As early as my freshman year, police officers came into our gym classes to warn us about the dangers of drugs. Yet the issue persists and not just in my community, but worldwide. What stands out most to me is how little attention is given to faith and God as sources of healing, prevention, and hope.
