Set in 1978, The Herald follows William, an aspiring college journalist who intends to publish a hit piece about an infamous local commune. One night, when he tries to convince fellow classmate, Kate, to join the independent news publication that he runs out of his dorm room, two former members of the commune show up on his doorstep to forcefully demand information about one of his sources.
