At fourteen, I ran from police and destroyed books with my own hands. That memory never left me. I made The Evidence to answer a question: where does freedom begin? In the mind. When a regime tries to imprison thought itself, it commits the deepest violence. Every book used as a prop in this film is genuinely banned in Turkey, fiction indistinguishable from reality.
Now that I live in America, where I can speak freely, I carry a responsibility. I became a filmmaker to give voice to the silenced. This film was my first step but won't be my last.
