About this submission

For years I have wanted to get my sugar gliders into a film, but I wanted it to be a strong story that would have an actual impact. This film was a true passion piece that I felt almost spiritually obligated to write, finally utilizing my degree in environmental studies. I wanted to explore our planet's history from a non-human point of view - illuminating the destructive consequences that exist hand-in-hand with human progress. As artists, we are in a unique position to change peoples' minds and hearts by presenting real world issues and facts through the lens of fiction.

Stephanie Kirves is an award-winning screenwriter, director, and actress. Best known for her strong emotional performances in horror films as a "scream queen", she has recently found an equal passion working behind the camera. Founder of film company Parallel Lives Pictures, she seeks to utilize cinema to explore issues she is passionate about - namely destigmatizing mental illness and combatting the ecological crisis. Stephanie's films are known for their carefully crafted symbolic storylines, complex characters, and unique experimental visuals.
