Join us for an engaging discussion featuring four filmmakers from this year’s festival as they discuss their personal and creative journeys, the evolution of their projects, how they found and learned from their key collaborators, and what it took to bring their vibrant stories to life. Joining the conversation will be Charlotte Regan (Scrapper), Alejandra Vasquez and Sam Osborn (Going Varsity in Mariachi), and Andrew Durham (Fairyland). Born in Brazil, Ana Souza was partially raised in The Netherlands and now resides in Los Angeles. She is the Manager of the Programming department at Sundance and a programmer on the features team, focusing on US and International fiction films across sections. She helped launch Sundance's newest international edition in CDMX in partnership with Cinépolis and regularly contributes to Sundance London. In addition to her work at Sundance, she is the Director of Programming at the Sun Valley Film Festival and the Forum Producer for the Palm Springs International ShortFest. She has also programmed for AFI FEST, Outfest, the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, and the LA Film Festival in the past, and she has worked in various capacities for LALIFF, Ambulante California, and NALIP’s Latino Media Fest, among others. Sam Osborn is a filmmaker of Mexican-American descent. His debut feature-length documentary, UNIVERSE, was awarded Best Music Documentary by the International Documentary Association in 2021. His short film FOLK FRONTERA was awarded the Jury Prize for Texas Short Film at SXSW 2022 and premiered on PBS’ The Latino Experience. His second film GOING VARSITY IN MARIACHI premiered at Sundance 2023 and won the Jonathan Oppenheim Editing Award for the U.S. Documentary Competition. more...

Alejandra Vasquez is a Mexican-American director and producer. Raised in rural Texas, Vasquez directed the short films FOLK FRONTERA, winner of Best Texas Short at SXSW, and WHEN IT'S GOOD, IT'S GOOD, co-produced with Latino Public Broadcasting. She cut her teeth on the producing side as part of the teams behind the award-winning features MATANGI/MAYA/M.I.A (2018) and US KIDS (2020). Charlotte Regan is a filmmaker from London who grew up making low-budget music promos for local rappers, creating over 200 in total. Her first short film, STANDBY, was nominated for a BAFTA. Her second short, FRY-UP, screened at Sundance and Berlinale. She is a Sundance Ignite x Adobe Fellow and was named as a 2020 Screen International Star of Tomorrow. Her debut feature SCRAPPER had its world premiere at Sundance 2023 where it went on to win the World Dramatic Grand Jury Prize. more...

A graduate of the USC School of Cinema and Television in Los Angeles, Andrew Durham has worked under such directors as David Lynch, Christopher Guest, Wes Craven, and Oliver Stone. Andrew began his collaborative relationship with Sofia Coppola when he produced her first short film, LICK THE STAR, and Coppola’s television series, HI-OCTANE. He went on to work for MTV Networks as Producer for Projects in Development, and later for Fox Television Studios where he served as Vice President of Production. more...
