From premieres at Sundance 2021 to Academy Award wins, hear from Siân Heder, director of CODA, about her work in fiction filmmaking and Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, director of Summer Of Soul (...Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised) about his work in nonfiction filmmaking as they are each presented with the Sundance Institute Vanguard Award. Heder discusses her filmmaking process with previous Vanguard Award winner Radha Blank and Thompson with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Dee Rees. Every year, the Sundance Institute Vanguard Award is bestowed upon artists or industry figures who define the innovation, originality, and independent spirit upon which the Institute was founded in 1981. This year the award is presented by Acura.
