Iman June Blackwell is a Malay-American film director, producer, writer, and composer with a mission to use digital media as an agent for environmental justice and the visibility of marginalized communities. She was born and raised in Fayetteville, Arkansas and graduated from Georgetown University School of Foreign Service with a degree in International Affairs and Film and Media Studies.
In 2014, she was a regional finalist for the International Youth Silent Film Festival. While at Georgetown, Blackwell interned at the D.C. Environmental Film Festival, the largest environmental film festival in the world. She later served as a production intern for National Geographic Unscripted Series and FX Networks, where she supported Emmy-winning shows such as Explorer, Trafficked, Shōgun, and The Bear. She currently works as a Post-Production Coordinator for 20th Century Studios TV and an independent film and video director, screenwriter, and photographer. Her short documentary Sharps & Flats premieres in festivals in spring of 2025.
