I wanted to explore multiculturalism within my Mexican-American heritage. There was an interesting duality I found in growing up in a border town. This film was a way to play with the idea of wanting to belong and fit in within your culture. On the other hand, I wanted to be truthful about experiences and realities within Mexican-American culture. There's that "us and them" feeling on both sides that felt necessary to tell. I chose the time and place because of my personal ties to the school and soccer was a symbol of belonging.
