I grew up surrounded by mountains, admiring their beauty, and our culture, and the quiet resilience of the people who call them home. Through many visits to remote villages, I grew close to the girls of Sildi. One of them, Noor, once shared her dream of becoming a teacher and moving to the city. When I returned a year later, I learned she had been married off, her education cut short. Her dream, like so many others, had been quietly silenced. Saheli is a tribute to girls like Noor, and to the dreams that still echo across the valleys.
