When I was first coming up with ideas for Rose, I was interested in the idea of loneliness, specifically the very poignant loneliness that I felt growing up queer. Not only in the feeling of otherness, but within the queer community itself. I was raised into a culture of sex, if only because it was my way of emulating how I thought I was supposed to love. With this film, I hoped to illustrate that feeling, the sense of isolation that comes with growing up queer, and the yearning for a relationship based on love.
