About this submission

When I moved to LA, I met people who lived through the chaos of 1992 Rodney King protests. Hearing their stories, seeing them tear up at the mere recollection of the events, and learning that the only casualty caused by Korean American-owned firearms was none other than a Korean American man, I was shocked, humbled, and ashamed to have learned to look up to "Rooftop Koreans" as heroes against looters. It was an explosion of a series of events, misunderstandings, and history of struggle between minorities in the United States, and I felt it needed to be told.
