I could never be sure if Rodney's story was true. In the months that I started volunteering for him through the Massachusettes Association for the Blind, he started telling me about a neighbor who would bang on his ceiling every night. It's a peculiar story, with many unverifiable details. As a result, those in power—the building managers, the government officials, the police—were reluctant to help. But his suffering was true. I want the audience to face the ambiguity of his narrative and wonder, is he telling the truth? And does it even matter?
