About this submission

“Piece of My Heart” presented challenges that made me reevaluate my creative goals. I took on a nearly archaic filmmaking form using two rolls of film (roughly two minutes of footage on each), a faulty 16MM camera, and editing on a Steenbeck machine. A limited access to visual effects, music, and dialogue was intimidating, but manageable. Unfortunately, my confidence took a hefty blow when the camera motor exploded, destroying my first roll of film and (I assumed) my story. With one roll left, I explored how intentionality of every image, composition, and cut can transform chaos and incohesion into art.
