If you Google the word “Okrika,” you might be confused by what you see. Okrika is first a town in the southern part of Rivers State, Nigeria. But “okrika” is also the name Nigerians use when referring to thrift clothes, usually imported from the UK and the US.
My interest started from pure curiosity. To understand why the name of a town became the name for second-hand clothes. Beyond that, I wanted to make people understand it's not just clothes, it's history, culture and it affects real people.
