Born with a rare intolerance to harissa, a staple treated as sacred in Tunisian cuisine and culture, Taher grows up learning to hide. Quiet shame hardens into conflict when his inability to eat harissa strains his relationship with his girlfriend. Questioning his place in a society that leaves little room for difference, Taher encounters others like him, the No Harissa tribe. As he undergoes their rites of passage to join them, he begins a journey not toward fitting in, but toward claiming the right to exist authentically, critically, and without compromise.
Saifeddine Lahmar is a Tunisian filmmaker, journalist, and Northwestern University student studying Film & TV and Journalism. His work explores memory, belonging, culture, and the global movement of stories.
