Kristine Bernabe is a composer and visual artist based in Brooklyn, NY. Born and raised in Los Angeles County, California, she grew up with a musician father who enrolled her in piano lessons at a young age. Her interest in film and television scoring began as a child when she first heard Howard Shore’s score for The Lord of the Rings trilogy. In high school, she began composing, recording, and sharing her own compositions with her classmates online. From a young age, her music has been influenced by a combination of genres: ambient, hip hop, classical music, rock, soul, and pop in addition to film and television scores. In 2012, Kristine graduated from UC Irvine in Orange County, California where she continued pursuing music composition while finishing her studies to get a day job in arts journalism. She wrote about music, arts, and culture for the local, award-winning alternative publication Orange County Weekly. When Kristine moved to New York City in 2016, she transitioned out of journalism and immersed herself in her true passion of music composition and production. For the summer of 2020, Kristine received a scholarship to attend New York University’s two-week TV/BMI Screen Scoring workshop to continue her training. She worked with NYU faculty and created original works for critique by composers Sean Callery (24,Homeland), Blake Neely (Arrow, Riverdale), Chad Fischer (Scandal, Garden State), and Lyle Workman (Love, Crashing). Among Kristine’s influences in her composition style are electronic music composers from the 1960s and 1970s such as Mort Garson’s music written on the Moog synthesizer as well as the Western-influenced scores of Ennio Morricone and Woody Jackson. Her music is also inspired by the orchestral and electronic scores of Paul Haslinger, Ludwig Goransson, Jonny Greenwood, Jon Brion, and Ramin Djawadi. Kristine is also a visual artist who uses her work in design and illustration to complement her music practice. In addition to her music and art practice, Kristine works as the graphic designer for Music Producers Club in New York City, which hosts educational and networking events for the local music producer community. As an artist and composer, she aims to combine her work from both disciplines to create an immersive listening experience. more...
