As visibility in women's soccer surges, "Maybe It's Just the Rain" seeks to amplify the accomplishments of a group of underdog women: the Philippine Women's National Football Team. Recently, they became the first Filipino football team in history -- men's or women's -- to debut and win a match at the FIFA World Cup. Through following a key player and her relationship with her lola (Filipina grandmother), we investigate the underlying complexities of diasporic identity and familial relationships that make up the soft underbelly of the athlete, expanding the increasingly popular narrative of women's football and women's sports at large.
