About this Video

Master of Ceremonies explores the global spirit of hip-hop, following local Greek Emcees and KRS-ONE while on tour, tracing how a culture born in the Bronx finds resonance in Athens and beyond. The film examines how music transcends language, and how rhythm, tone, and authenticity create psychological and spiritual connections even when lyrics aren’t understood. Through performance and intimate reflection, Emcee’ing becomes ritual and resistance.

Jasiel Louison is a Trinidadian American director working across documentary, narrative, commercial, and music video formats. Her films blend evocative storytelling with a bold visual style, influenced by her background in art direction and political science. A graduate of Fordham University and an alum of Ghetto Film School, Jasiel’s work is rooted in themes of identity, generational trauma, and social change, often exploring the quiet tension between people and their environments.

She has directed a range of projects across varying budgets and scales, from the Frick Collection, commissioned short Reverie, to The Ocean Listens to No One, filmed in Iceland, which delves into inherited pain and the legacy of abuse. In 2024, she directed Why Do You Run?, a documentary produced in partnership with Red Bull and Wings for Life to raise awareness about spinal cord injuries. Currently, she is developing The Master of Ceremonies, a poetic documentary on Emcee’ing across Europe.
