About this submission

"Marwa and the Moon" is a deeply personal project for me, inspired by a true story from my own childhood. Based off an experience I had in the 4th grade, the film explores themes of identity, belonging, and resilience in the face of discrimination. As a young Pakistani Muslim girl, I found myself grappling with the complexities of cultural and religious diversity at a tender age, and "Marwa and the Moon" reflects my journey of understanding and confronting discrimination despite my innocence.

I am a Pakistani-Muslim woman, born with a cinematic lens in one hand and a storytelling heart in the other. Growing up in Toronto, I found myself straddling two worlds - the rich tapestry of my Pakistani heritage and the dynamic landscapes of Western culture. This beautiful duality became the cornerstone of my artistic vision! My mission as a filmmaker is clear - to bridge cultures, dismantle stereotypes, and celebrate the richness of diversity. Through my creativity, I want each film to be a love letter to my heritage. Whether through dramas, documentaries, or other narrative long form content, I strive to create a cinematic mosaic that speaks to me as my unique self. more...
