I wanted to explore the harm beauty standards have created for younger generations. Growing up, I always truggled with self-worth. As I grew older, I began to see how women are pushed even more aggressively toward an unattainable, standardized ideal that suppresses individuality and turns identity into performance. I believe the pursuit of these standards leads to shame, self-harm, anger, and emotional isolation, damaging real human connection. I chose to explore this through horror and comedy because those genres allow the absurdity and violence of these expectations to feel both exaggerated and honest, exposing how ridiculous these standards are.
