About this submission

"Little Daughter" is a deeply personal film that mirrors many of my experiences as a mixed-race teenage girl struggling with her body. My Chinese mother was far from a typical "tiger-mom," but like many immigrant families, love was shown through home-cooked meals. This love at times was hard to accept and understand, because of my fraught relationship with eating. This relationship I wanted to explore on the screen, as it is one that many families can relate to. While not biographical, "Little Daughter" is the culmination of my experience of giving and receiving love that is difficult to accept.
