Inspired by Ana María García’s La Operación (1982), the piece offers a fresh look at this scarcely-discussed period through the story of Luz. I was astounded to learn that these illegal sterilizations used against our people had been so easily forgotten. It needed to be revisited, and we had both the opportunity and moral duty to do so; this time through fiction. I believed that fiction would allow the audience to experience the weight of these events and leave a big enough impact to push them to learn more.
