I consider how the pursuit of mindfulness can dredge up some of our deepest fears and concerns. In a fractious attention economy, presence and attention are our strongest assets, but there is a vulnerability in embracing this. Sitting with yourself in silence has become a terrifying activity for many. Heavier feelings come to the fore in minute, sensorial ways; shallow breaths, the urgent quality of a bird call, the touch of water.
