Eivor, a depressed 20-year-old Filipino woman, has received a referral to see a psychiatrist. At home, they're determined to act ‘normal’ by keeping to themselves, concealing the truth of the doctor’s visit and a major depressive disorder diagnosis. Eivor’s mum, Karla, engages with Eivor at various times but struggles to bridge the silence, even though she senses something is wrong. When it becomes unbearable for Eivor, the truth is eventually revealed. Karla first meets Eivor’s vulnerability with disbelief and protest before coming to an understanding. She joins Eivor in their first psychiatrist appointment, emphasising the quiet power of showing up.
