I wanted to approach topics of women’s autonomy, religion, and the medical system with levity while still acknowledging the horror of it. In a country whose cultural pendulum has swung back around to conservatism, I believe it is important to show and satirize societal expectations women are held to. For Immaculate Perception, I thought body horror, which can be fun, wild, and distressing, was the most compelling lens to tell this story from.
