This is a love letter to São Paulo’s East Side, where I was born and raised. Its hoods (or quebradas, as we say) deeply shaped Brazilian hip-hop culture and, in turn, shaped who I am as a person and as an artist. When I chose filmmaking, I committed to reclaiming this territory through a new lens. By blending animation with live-action, the film affirms our right to sensitivity, beauty, and subjectivity, confronting and dismantling the limiting stereotypes historically imposed on Black lives in Brazilian cinema through a love letter to my childhood and people.
Roger Bravo is a director and screenwriter from São Paulo, Brazil. He created the 3D animation "I’m Caipora" and directed the shortfilm "I’ll Come Back for You", selected for the 29th Tiradentes Film Festival, 15th ANIMAGE Film Festival, 13th Curta Brasília.
