“I-80 West” is an edit of a commute to Berkeley with my father and sister. The story deals with the inheritance of love in an immigrant family and the teaching of vulnerability. The biographical short film is an experiment in dialogue and storytelling. As the story unfolds, the viewer must consider what narrative the edit shapes for them; how dialogue creates meaning because we assume lines relate to one another; how subtext is orchestrated. While the content is real, the narrative is curated, and I aimed to highlight that collocation in storytelling of personal emotional experiences synthesized by crafted scenes.
