Food is an important aspect of every culture, and so, for my documentary, I decided to view the story of a Syrian refugee family in Germany through the meals they have throughout the day. The film shows a dichotomy between their struggles and the mundanity of everyday life as immigrants, while also highlighting their culture and their strength as a family. The film was directly inspired by my mother, an immigrant from China, as I wanted to emulate the feeling of waking up to the smell of congee or taking the time to wrap wontons together as a family.
