A fractured meditation on mental illness, memory, and motion—Headless Chicken; Chicken No Longer of Head overlays personal prose and an atonal score with the restless backdrop of New York City to depict the dissonance of bipolar disorder. The filmmaker, Elshadai Aberra, wrote the prose amidst an undiscovered manic episode in 2024. A couple weeks later, she unintentionally shot the film while manic in New York. And then Elshadai constructed and edited the film one year later, fully adjusted to her mood stabilizers and antipsychotics.
