In the middle of doing her hair—individual braids that are clearly going to take all day—a woman finds out a birthday dinner has been moved up to the afternoon. Panic sets in as she looks at her half-finished head and realizes she’s not going to make it. Her reflection jumps in with unhelpful but familiar commentary, poking fun and throwing out last-minute fixes every Black woman knows all too well. After trying a few almost-styles, she finally accepts defeat, sends the text, and laughs it off—because sometimes life happens, and sometimes the hair just isn’t done.
