For as long as I can remember, my grandfather has been an eminent presence in my life. He helped raise me despite barely speaking English, and he’s lived a thousand lives: war survivor, father of six, Tinder user, and my best friend. When his health started unexpectedly declining, I felt an urgency to make something with him: a memento of our friendship, a reminder of what it felt like to be close to him. With this no-budget project taking one week to complete, we help fulfill his bucket list-- by any means necessary.
Caitlyn Phu is a Los Angeles–based Asian American filmmaker drawn to surreal yet sincere stories about longing, avoidance, and the inherent comedy of coping.
