Sandra Hughes writes, directs, choreographs, produces and performs original productions for the live stage, television, film and radio. Her career includes productions for Public Television, Cable and Public Radio as a writer, choreographer and performer. As a writer, director, producer, choreographer, performer her work has toured to live stages throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Eastern and Western Europe.
Awards and honors include national distribution for Public Television, a Regional Emmy as writer for “Outstanding Entertainment Program of the Year" and an American Film Institute Video Showcase of her adaptation of her stage production, “Bring Me Yellow Flowers”, which was nominated for the Robert Bennett Award. Sandra choreographed the first motion capture animation with Crawford Media (formerly Crawford Post Productions), which showcased at SIGGRAPH in Las Vegas for a live audience of 25,000.
Sandra is a member of the Sundance Collab at the Sundance Institute and a vetted member of the National League of American Pen Women. She is also the Producing Artistic Director of Gateway Performance Productions and its studio, The Mask Center, in Atlanta, Georgia. The Sandra L. Hughes Theatre Collection - housed at the Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee Theatre Research Institute - documents her professional career.
