Ali MacLean is an award winning TV writer and playwright in Los Angeles. A graduate of the Miami University actor’s program and the LaJolla Playhouse acting conservatory, her plays and writing have been workshopped at the Melrose Theater, (via the HBO Workspace), the Hudson Theatre (via Comedy Central Stages), the Lyric Hyperion, Largo at the Coronet Theatre, the Naked Angels Theatre Group, the White Bear Theatre (UK), Rogue Machine Theatre, A Noise Within Theatre, Antaeus Theatre, Zephyr Theatre, and Ensemble Studio Theatre. Ali’s play She’s Not There received the 2018 John Gassner Playwriting Award and was named 2019 Best Production by She NYC Arts. Her play Wolves At The Door was a finalist in the 2019 O’Neill National Playwright’s Conference. Ali workshopped her latest play, I’ll Call You Mine, at the Summer Salt Playwrights Workshop in Chatham, MA. Ali is a member of the Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Playwrights Unit, Antaeus Theatre’s Playwrights Lab, and the Dramatists Guild.

Ali is an award winning filmmaker, and her films have screened at Atlanta, Toronto, Gen Art, and Palm Springs to name a few. Her screenplays have been a Chesterfield Writer’s Project semi-finalist, a Scriptapalooza semi-finalist, a WeScreenplay Diverse Voices finalist, a Screencraft semi-finalist, an Orchard Project finalist, an IFP Filmmakers Program finalist, a 2015 Women in Film Mentor recipient, and the 2018 Writer For Writer Fellowship recipient.

Ali has had her work performed at Comedy Central Stages, the Lyric Hyperion, Largo at the Coronet Theatre. Her current play She’s Not There was selected for the Ensemble Studio Theatre Winterfest reading series, was a finalist for the Gary Marshall Theatre New Works Festival, was shortlisted for the Dennis and Victoria Ross Foundation Project, and is a semi-finalist in the Screencraft Play competition judged by David Lindsay-Abaire and Donald Margulies. She’s Not There is the recipient of the 2018 John Gassner award and will be presented at the White Bear Theatre in London in 2019. Her latest work Wolves At The Door is currently being work shopped at EST and was accepted to the Pataphysics Workshop at the Flea Theatre. Ali’s prose is published in The American Dream (Nation Books, 2008). Her award winning short films have screened in Atlanta, Toronto, Gen Art, and Palm Springs film festivals.
