I wrote this a week after Charlie Kirk got shot. Reading the discourse on the Internet with its calls for civil war and TikTok memes made everything blend together in my brain until the actual murder felt like background noise. I was shocked and scared by how easily that feeling took hold of me.
My goal for EPILOGUE was to explore the emotional distance we've developed toward violence. It can be omnipresent and strangely impersonal. I believe this is what numbs us to it, and we don't realize how numb we are until it happens to us in real time.
