I chose to tell this story because I am deeply interested in how absence shapes attachment. In Dem No Be Father, the protagonist grows up without a present father and with a mother who is emotionally distant due to work and responsibility. Raised instead by his mother’s closest friend, he develops a quiet dependence on maternal warmth that follows him into adulthood.

This film explores how early emotional gaps do not disappear; they transform into longing, projection, and fragile intimacy. I wanted to portray how love can be displaced, inherited, and misunderstood when care comes from unexpected places.
