This story was inspired by the ways traditional culture can
confine the younger generation. Within families, love and control
often blur into one another, creating bonds that are both
protective and suffocating. Neither the daughter nor the mother is
entirely innocent or entirely at fault. They are both caught in a
cycle of love, fear, and resistance. And I’m drawn to stories that push into extreme, intense territory.
