This conversation focuses on the creative process of heightening cinematic story through music and ambience. With origins in live performance, this group of electrifying musicians have expanded their reach to composing for feature length films, animation and musicals. Moderated by Dan Wilcox, with composers Saul Williams (NEPTUNE FROST), Drum & Lace (SUMMERING), and Daniel Hart (THE GREEN KNIGHT), each panelist discusses their work that premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival and their work beyond the festival.

Saul Williams

Panelist

Saul Williams came to public attention after the release of the internationally acclaimed film SLAM (dir. Marc Levin), which he co-wrote and starred in, introducing the world to the Slam Poetry movement and winning Sundance's Grand Jury Prize and the Cannes Camera d'Or, in 1998. As a musician, Saul has released six albums and toured or collaborated with dozens of artists, including Kanye West, Nas, Janelle Monae, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, and The Roots.

Drum & Lace

Panelist

Drum & Lace, aka Sofia degli Alessandri-Hultquist, is an Italian composer and artist. Scoring credits include Netflix film NIGHT TEETH, campy thriller DEADLY ILLUSIONS, and upcoming drama SUMMERING by James Ponsoldt, that premiered at the 2022 Sundance Film Festival. Television credits include AppleTV+'s DICKINSON, NBC's GOOD GIRLS, and Amazon Prime's I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER. Her work also branches out to different mediums, such as dance, theater, fashion, and immersive performance.

Daniel Hart

Panelist

Daniel Hart is a composer and performer based in Los Angeles. He made his feature film debut in 2013 with AIN'T THEM BODIES SAINTS, beginning his collaboration with director David Lowery. Hart has scored all of Lowery's films to date. Their latest work, THE GREEN KNIGHT, is a meditative medieval fantasy and a labor of love, which both Lowery and Hart reworked extensively during the pandemic.
