A middle-aged Chinese-American woman travels from California back to her hometown in northeastern China to visit her aging mother. Their daily routine in China juxtaposes with long distance phone calls to form a tender meditation on migration’s invisible weight: the loneliness of separation, the persistence of care, and the resilience born as both women learn to cope with the acceptance that they will spend the rest of their lives apart.
