Carlos Cuarón y la vida de los personajes: de la palabra a la imagen

Carlos Cuarón nació en la Ciudad de México el 2 de octubre de 1966. Estudió Letras Inglesas en la UNAM. Ha participado en los Talleres de Guión del Sundance Institute como tallerista y como asesor, en México, Estados Unidos e India. Ha escrito, dirigido y producido para cine, teatro y televisión. Escribió y dirigió RUDO Y CURSI, la cual se convirtió en su momento en la tercera película mexicana más taquillera en la historia y logró 8 nominaciones al Ariel. Produjo, escribió y dirigió la película BESOS DE AZÚCAR, con la cual obtuvo el premio a mejor director de la semana de realizadores del Festival Fantasporto en Portugal, 2014. Ha escrito y dirigido los cortometrajes SÍSTOLE DIÁSTOLE, MAMACITA, NOCHE DE BODAS (selección oficial Semana de la Crítica, Cannes, 2001), ME LA DEBES, JUEGO DE NIÑOS, AMOR AL TRI, NO ME DIGAN HUGO, OFELIA, THE SECOND BAKERY ATTACK, UNA PIEDRA DEL CAMINO y EL SÁNDWICH DE MARIANA. Escribió los guiones de las películas SÓLO CON TU PAREJA, Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN, EL MISTERIO DEL TRINIDAD y colaboró en ¿QUIÉN DIABLOS ES JULIETTE?. Productor de DESIERTO, productor asociado de las películas CRÓNICAS y THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON. Co-creador, co-productor y co-guionista de la serie animada PONCHO BALÓN VA A LA FINAL y PONCHO BALÓN VA A SUDÁFRICA. Ganador del Ariel por mejor argumento en 1992 con SÓLO CON TU PAREJA. Nominado ese mismo año a mejor guión, en 2004 por EL MISTERIO DEL TRINIDAD y en 2009 a mejor ópera prima por RUDO Y CURSI. Ganador del León de Plata al mejor guión en el Festival de Venecia, 2001 con Y TÚ MAMA TAMBIÉN, con la que logró nominaciones al Oscar y a los premios BAFTA en 2003, también por mejor guión original. Su más reciente largometraje, AMALGAMA, se estrena en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia 2020.

Carlos Cuarón was born in Mexico City on October 2, 1966. He studied English Literature at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. He has participated in the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab as both a fellow writer and an advisor in Mexico, the United States, and India. He has written, directed, and produced for the theater, cinema, and television. He is the writer and director of RUDO Y CURSI, which at the time registered the third most successful box office sales in Mexican film history, garnering eight Mexican Academy Awards nominations. He produced, wrote, and directed the film SUGAR KISSES, receiving an award for Best Director during Directors Week at the Fantasporto Festival in Portugal, 2014. He has written and directed the short films SÍSTOLE DIÁSTOLE, MAMACITA, WEDDING NIGHT (Official Section, International Critics' Week, Cannes, 2001), ME LA DEBES, JUEGO DE NIÑOS, AMOR AL TRI, NO ME DIGAN HUGO, Ofelia, THE SECOND BAKERY ATTACK, UNA PIEDRA EN EL CAMINO, and EL SÁNDWICH DE MARIANA. He wrote the screenplays for SÓLO CON TU PAREJA, Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN, and EL MISTERIO DE TRINIDAD. He also co-wrote ¿QUIÉN DIABLOS ES JULIETTE? He is one of the producers in DESIERTO and an associate producer in the films CRÓNICAS and THE ASSASSINATION OF RICHARD NIXON. He is the co-creator, co-producer and co-writer of the animated series PONCHO BALÓN VA A LA FINAL and PONCHO BALÓN VA A SUDÁFRICA. In 1992, he won the Mexican Academy Award for Best Story for SÓLO CON TU PAREJA, nominated that same year for Best Screenplay. In 2004, he also merited a nomination for Best Screenplay for EL MISTERIO DE TRINIDAD, and in 2009 for Best First Film for RUDO Y CURSI. In 2001, CUARÓN won the Silver Lion for Best Screenplay at the Venice Film Festival for Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN, which was also nominated for the Oscar and BAFTA awards for Best Original Screenplay in 2003. His third feature film, AMALGAMA, premiers at the Morelia Film Festival this year.

Guionista y promotora, a lo largo de su carrera ha combinado la escritura de guiones, con la docencia, y el trabajo de curaduría y difusión del cine en diversos ámbitos en México y en otros países. Entre sus trabajos destacan EN MEDIO DE LA NADA; DE LA CALLE; LA GUERRILLA Y LA ESPERANZA: LUCIO CABAÑAS; LOPON, y la serie para televisión CIEN AÑOS CON JUAN RULFO. Es Vice Presidenta de la Academia Mexicana de Artes y Ciencias Cinematográficas.
