I chose to tell the story Black or White to explore how racism, upbringing, and fear shape connection and love. The film follows Janet, an African American girl who moves from Mississippi to a new school carrying racial trauma and strict expectations from her parents. When she meets a white boy who shows genuine interest, she feels both intrigued and guarded, torn between curiosity and self protection. A juke joint represents freedom, where race does not define belonging, until jealousy and a false accusation lead to Janet’s arrest. This story highlights racism and the courage required to live under judgment.
