Black Milk is at its core a story about church hurt: the way that growing up in a church is often traumatizing, violent, and just plain weird for thousands of young people. I grew up in a church that felt like this, and I go to a school that castigates people like me. I made Black Milk as a kind of protest and metaphor for the strangeness and horror of small churches.
