Bahre Srebrenica is a Bosnian filmmaker, born on July 2, 1990, in Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He grew up in the nearby town of Busovača, where he completed his primary and secondary education.
He holds two master's degrees from Malmö University in Sweden:
A Master of Science in Criminology, with a thesis focused on self-identity and aggression from the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences.
A Master of Arts in Creative Media, with a thesis on the dramatization of the real in film and media at the School of Arts and Communication.
He has also completed additional studies, including a one-year project in documentary film at Linköping University and coursework in performance documentation. Bahre is multilingual, speaking six languages.
As a filmmaker, he has written and directed multiple plays and short films, including:
Biciklo (Bicycle, 2021) – Writer, Director, and Producer. This short film received official selections and awards at festivals such as Cannes Film Awards, Madrid Indie Film Festival, Breves Images Court Metrage in Marseille, Audience Award at KinoEst Fest in Italy, and Special Mention at Fecorno in Norte de Santander, Colombia.
Ulica Snova (Dream Street, 2020) – Producer. Recognized as Best Short Film at the Bosnian Art Forum in 2019 for its contribution to minority rights in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
The Dancer (2019) – Producer, in collaboration with Malmö Theatre Academy (short documentary).
The Boy (2019) – Producer (short film).
He has initiated various cultural projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina and internationally, such as making cinemas accessible for children in Colombian favelas during an internship with Corporación Casa de la Memoria Quipu Huasi (2015–2016). His play Tillflykt was performed at the West Pride festival in Göteborg.
In 2021, he co-founded the first Bosnian Art Forum in collaboration with the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina (alongside painter Mirela Kulović), aimed at inspiring and connecting young artists from Bosnia and the diaspora.
He is the founder of Bus Film Lab, a film laboratory in his hometown of Busovača, dedicated to supporting local filmmaking through workshops, resources, and community initiatives.
Bahre maintains a freelance career in film and video editing since 2008 and has worked in audiovisual production roles, including as an audiovisual producer and editor at Allianz (since August 2023, focusing on sound, lighting, camera work, and postproduction) and previously at Wedio (2022–2023). He has also participated in international platforms like Sundance Collab.
His ongoing major projects include:
'Would be the best to run now' – A five-part feature documentary in development, addressing the issue of forced abortions among Roma girls in Bosnia.
Ritual (also referred to as Ritual Docu Film) – His latest documentary film, currently in production. This project is highlighted as a key work in progress, with updates shared primarily via his studio Instagram (@bahre.sr).
