As a 2nd generation Mexican-American, I’ve witnessed firsthand how gentrification negatively affects the community and culture. I lived in Chino, CA, a once highly populated region with Latinos, which quickly shifted to wealthy white families. In recent events, tourists and white American citizens have been moving to Mexico, gentrifying the area due to the “cost of living” or “spectacle” purposes. This has left the original citizens fighting the same battle my parents and I faced when my city underwent the same unwanted changes. I know how gentrification affects communities.
