“An Outpost” explores a peculiar site in the city of Rio de Janeiro: the Mocanguê Island bus stop, the only one in the world located on a bridge — the Rio–Niterói Bridge, a symbol of Brazil’s military dictatorship. In a country that still struggles to guarantee basic conditions for its workers, nostalgia for the dictatorship endures as one of Brazil’s most troubling feelings. Then, we visited the Mocanguê Island bus stop to speak with workers about the thoughts that accompany them while waiting for their buses, from public safety to their personal daydreams.
